I watched the movie yesterday afternoon. I have to say it really caught me, I was impressed by the atmosphere the directress created, I was impressed by Binoche's great acting role she played, so well depicted the feeling of an accommodated middle-upper class woman embarked on such a challenging adventure. I was amazed by the fact that the movie was inspired on true events and characters, who really existed.
I totally recommend the movie despite the fact that shows a wonderful image of the north pole atmosphere and climate, it is also a movie made by women acted by women and whose main characters and souls are women although the presence of the man is somehow always there, conducting their lives, guiding their souls. Do not forget the period of time: beginning of XX century, What do you expect? Anyway, Josephine Peary was a heroine, was a pioneer being the only woman in the expeditions to the North Pole, no matter the reason to do it, she was there. Thus, thinking about the true motivation and reason to embark in the expedition, that is to say, being with his husband in the adventure of reaching the pole, I cannot help getting the idea that the importan issue is power. Once you are in a powerful position, no matter the gender, you are allowed to do, to say and to pass over any situation you may find. Power, being really a powerful person is the only distinction between one human being and another. Power te be untouchable, unreachable.
